This emergency communications class (EC-001) is the entry level class in preparing for providing valuable service to served agencies both inside the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as on the national scene.  The Virginia Section requires members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to complete this course to serve as a team member.  Some ARRL sections are requiring the completion of this course to be a member of ARES.

This course along with ICS classes (ICS-100, 200, 700 and 800), first aid and CPR certifications is the minimum requirement for being listed on the ARRL national database for availability for call-up to major disaster service.

Our served agencies are requiring trained and certified people in each phase of disaster response.  Communications is no exception to this expectation.

We will be starting out Emergency Communications Course ARECC level one, on January 31st.  There will be nine sessions with our exam being held on Thursday April 17th at 7:00 pm.  We will meet for two hours per week on Thursday nights.  You will be expected to have read the assigned reading for the class in the prior week.  There will also be projects that you will need to complete each week prior to the class.  The course will extend over a nine week period and conclude with the final exam.  More information and the online registration can be found at http://www.w4ghs.org/HamClass.html.  The course is free, the test is $14.00.  This class is open to all interested licensed Amateur Radio operators regardless of residence.
